The festive season is here and so is the excitement to look your glamorous best. However, choosing the right outfit can be a bit challenging and time-consuming especially in the time and age when every day a new trend knocks on the fashion door. Keeping this confusion in mind, designer duo Paras and Shalini of the brand Geisha designs list down some go-to styles that can make you look drop-dead gorgeous without feeling the pinch.

Paras says that “a lot of people dress to impress- but you don’t need to be a millionaire to look like one.”

He lists down some tips to filter your trends

*  If indulging in animal prints- keep it small – possibly in accessories – like a scarf(silk).

* Avoid faded colours- even black should look new or clean.

* Neckline of the outfit should be subtle and not deep or plunging or over-revealing.

* Clean Classic design stilettos work better than large platforms.

* Clothes of the right size- a size too big or too small can be a killer.

* Avoid branded logos as they can tend to look fake- moderation is the key.

* Rich deep colours work better than pop / fluorescent types.

* Small pendant or single stone jewellery work better than oversized or large chunky ones. Also single metal works better than the use of different precious stones or metals.

* Bags with clearly defined lines work better than large, bulky, or conversational ones.

* If indulging in glitter/shine-avoid an overkill- small subtle elements or sequins are fine – avoid complexly covered sequined clothes.

* A good pedicure in open-toe footwear is a big must.

* Stick to classic colour combinations.

*Keep make up simple and elegant and highlight one aspect – either eye, cheeks, lips (but certainly not all of them).

Talking about fabrics, colours, cuts and motifs that are going to steal the show this festive season, Shalini told Opoyi, “Natural fibers and handcrafted brocades should be of prime focus in domestic Indian Festivities. From Khadi silks, Banarsi brocades, Chanderi, Bhagalpuri Silks to rich Indian Taffetas and Kasab Satins are being used in our Occasion Wear collections.”

“Colours are a mix palette of Jewel tones with rich pastels. Also, when it comes to motifs, paisleys, storytelling prints, floral and botanical, painting like artworks are the prime focus,” she said.

Some of the designs that one can try are voluminous skirts with cancans paired with Silk organza playful dupattas and well-cut custom fit blouses with low or strappy back necks, tie-ups or tassel on shoulders and waistbands.

The designer duo says that one should treat festivals as the time to support artisans too.

“Try to opt for hand-made, handcraft or locally made products- It’s a time not just to celebrate and dress up but also to support numerous artisans and to help sustain craft & culture somehow till better & healthier times visit us again,” they said.
