Fugitive businessman and diamantaire Mehul Choksi, who fled India in January 2018, has now gone missing in the Caribbean
island of Antigua and Barbuda, where he had been living in recent years. The police have launched a manhunt to track him down.

The police were “following up on
the whereabouts of Indian businessman Mehul Choksi”, PTI quoted
Commissioner of Police Atlee Rodney as saying, with local media reports noting
that the businessman was last seen driving in the southern parts of the island
on Sunday.

Although his vehicle was found later,
there was no trace of Choksi.

The diamantaire and his nephew Nirav
Modi
are wanted in India for allegedly siphoning off Rs 13,500 crore from Punjab
National Bank, a state-run bank, using letters of undertaking.

The two, however, are currently in starkly different conditions.  Modi is in a London prison, contesting
extradition to India.

Choksi had used the Citizenship by Investment

India and flying to the country in early 2018.

Both Choksi and Modi currently face a
CBI investigation.
