A man suspected to be Vikas Dubey, the main accused in the Kanpur firing case that left eight Uttar Pradesh policemen dead, was spotted outside a shop in Faridabad, reports news agency ANI quoting police sources.

Three other members close to Dubey were arrested today from Faridabad by the Haryana Police. “The Haryana Police have arrested three men, Kartike alias Prabhat, Ankur and Shravan in Faridabad. Two government police pistol of 9mm caliber, two pistols & 45 live rounds were recovered from them. We will take them into custody,” UP ADG law and order Prashant Kumar said.

Dubey, the most wanted criminal in Uttar Pradesh , shot dead deputy superintendent of police, three sub-inspectors and four constables near Kanpur on July 3.

In a well-planned attack, the gangster and his men first put up roadblocks on the approach road to Dikru village, which is 150 km from Lucknow, and then ambushed the team, drawn from three police stations.  

With the case getting more intense every passing day, the UP Police on Wednesday again raised the bounty on the dreaded gangster from Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. Two days ago, the reward on Dubey was increased to Rs 2.5 lakh from Rs 1 lakh.

Main aide killed

The Uttar Pradesh police gunned down Amar Dubey, a close aide of history-sheeter Dubey, on Wednesady morning, a senior officer said. He was killed in Maudaha village in Hamirpur district, STF IG Amitabh Yash said.

Hamirpur SP Shlok Kumar told ANI that, “an SHO and a STF constable were injured in the exchange of fire during the encounter today”. He further said “an automatic weapon and a bag have been recovered from Amar Dubey’s possession. Forensic team on their way to the encounter site, further investigation is underway.”

Hours later, Vikas Dubey’s aide Shyamu Bajpai carrying a reward of Rs 25,000 was also arrested by Chaubeypur police in Kanpur, following an encounter.

Dubey’s brother-in-law detained

The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force have also detained Dubey’s brother-in-law from Madhya Pradesh’s Shahdol district.

The Uttar Pradesh STF also took the wife and son of Dubey’s brother-in-law into their custody on Monday. 

“Raju Nigam, who is Vikas Dubey’s brother-in-law (brother of Dubey’s wife), and his son Adarsh have been taken into custody by the UP STF,” Shahdols Additional Superintendent of Police Pratima Mathew said.

Another gang member arrested

The Kanpur police on Sunday had arrested another member of the Dubey’s gang. According to the police, a country-made pistol was also recovered from him.

Identified as Daya Shankar Agnihotri, he was arrested after he sustained a bullet injury in the encounter started in Kalyanpur area of Kanpur district at around 4:40 am on Sunday.
