International Monetary Fund chief Gita Gopinath on Friday took to Twitter to express her joy after she was the subject of a question of Kaun Banega Crorepati 12, a show hosted by Amitabh Bachchan.

Bachchan, in a recent episode of KBC, asked a contestant, “The economist seen in this image has been the chief economist of which organisation since 2019?”

As Gopinath’s face appeared on the screen with the question, the Bollywood megastar added, in Hindi, “Her face is so beautiful that no one can relate her to economy.”

Reacting to the question, the IMF chief on Friday said, in a tweet, “Ok, I don’t think I will ever get over this. As a HUGE fan of Big B @SrBachchan, the Greatest of All Time, this is special!” and attached a clip from the show when the question was asked.

The KBC host reacted to Gopinath’s tweet, saying, “Thank you Gita Gopinath ji.. I meant every word I said about you on the show .. said in utmost earnestness.”

However, the IMF chief soon faced backlash on the social media site for “being ok” with the ‘sexist’ comment made by the Bollywood megastar on the quiz show.

Pointing out the remark made by Bachchan, where he said, “her face is so beautiful that no one can relate her to economy,” a user wrote, “…This is so incredibly sexist and dumb and I wish given you champion had called it out as such instead of being starstruck. Your response which went viral seems to suggest you’re ok with sexism.”

However, some users also defended Bachchan’s comment saying there was not anything wrong with the  KBC hosts’ remark. The season 12 of KBC ended on Friday.
