Mumbai Indians on Tuesday registered a 57-run defeat against Steven Smith-led Rajasthan Royals, as the pacers in blue stormed the stadium at Abu Dhabi with their consistent attacks against the opponent. Tuesday’s win ensured the Rohit Sharma-led team the top position in the IPL points table for now.

Talking about the win at the post-match presentation, Sharma said, “We have got quality in the squad. It is all about coming out and getting the job done. They (the players) are all talented, and on their day they can just take the game away from everybody”.

Hailing the pacers, he said, “It’s good to have guys that can exploit the conditions really well.”

The three pacers of the team, including Jasprit Bumrah, took eight wickets while giving away just 65 runs.

Commenting on Man of the Match Suryakumar Yadav’s performance, Sharma said, “A good Surya innings was coming, I spoke to him before the game, and his shot selection was perfect today. We wanted him to bat till the end because he can innovate rather well.”

Yadav scored 79 runs in last night’s match, which aided in the 194 runs scored by his team.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals captain Steven Smith lamented the team’s performance and said, “Obviously losing wickets early doesn’t help. Outside of Jos and Jofra at the end, we’ve got work to do. I don’t think we need to panic. It’s about implementing our plan. Need to turnaround and get a bit of momentum.”

The Rajasthan Royals are now at the seventh position in the eight-team league, while the Mumbai Indians top the points table.
