Kieron Pollard, the veteran West Indies all-rounder, announced his retirement from international cricket on April 20, Wednesday. The 34-year-old made his decision public on social networking platforms. The hard-hitting batsman is now a member of the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League 2022.

Pollard made his ODI debut against South Africa in the 2007 World Cup and went on to play 123 ODIs for his country. The right-handed hitter also played 101 T20Is for the West Indies. He never played Test cricket for his country, however. Pollard’s last international cricket match was against India in February 2022.

Pollard scored 2706 runs in 50-over cricket and 1569 runs in T20Is throughout his nearly 15-year career. Pollard had 19 fifties and three centuries in his international career. Aside from that, Pollard holds the international cricket record for hitting six maximums in six balls. West Indies also had some success in white-ball cricket under his guidance.

The former West Indies cricketer penned an emotional note on his social media accounts, to announce his retirement at the highest level.

He wrote, “After careful deliberation, I have today decided to retire from international cricket. As is the case for many young persons, it was a dream of mine to represent the West Indies team from the time I was a boy 10 years and I am proud to have represented West Indies cricket for over 15 years in both the T20I and ODI forms of the game. I can still vividly remember making my international debut in 2007 under the leadership of my childhood hero, Brian Lara.”
