There are many personalities in Gujarat who have made their motherland famous. One of them has brought the culture of Gujarat not only to India but to the world stage. She has always shown readiness to serve the poor, needy people. She is none other than the famous Gujarati singer Urvashiben Radadiya, whose name is enough to recall her achievements.

Radadiya has always been in the limelight due to her unique approach to her singing. On the auspicious occasion of this year’s Navratri, the singer had a special conversation with Opoyi in which she opened up about her struggles from her childhood till now.

Attachment to music since childhood

Radadiya said that she had the idea about music from an early age because her parents used to do concerts at the time and so she inherited music. “I was five years old back then and used to sit on their lap and listen to music and sometimes I would even pull their mic as I too had the eagerness to sing. Then I took 3 years of classical music training. Thus began my career in music at a very early age.”

Dreamed of becoming an IAS officer

Asked by Opoyi about what was her actual career dream was, she said, “It was my dream to become an IAS officer. Since I was good at teaching from a young age and I have always had the passion to do something, one of my relatives said that you should become an IAS and from then on I started dreaming of IAS and took an exam. But my destination was music so I reached there again.”

My fans are my true wealth

Asked about what she really cares about, Radadiya said, “People believe me wholeheartedly and this is my true wealth. They are quite attached to me and I am also very attached to them. Because I and my fans are emotionally connected with each other.”

“During the lockdown, I received messages from many people at home and abroad, which are very memorable to me and I have also taken screenshots of them as those messages were very touching.”

“Therefore, the special love that I have received from my fans is nothing more than God’s blessing. At the same time, I have respect for my fellow artists. This is my true wealth for me,” she added.

Publicity by social service is not right

When asked about her contribution to society, Radadiya said that it is not a matter of publicity. “I do social work for myself and my contribution is much less than those who have given me so much love. I do not even tell anyone that I have done such a thing.”

However, when Radadiya was asked, she said that she would not say more, but during the lockdown she helped poor and needy families as well as Corona Warriors.

What I have not learned in 28 years, I have learned in just 6 months

Asked what difference in life she can see due to the coronavirus-induced lockdown, Radadiya said, “This time has been very good for me because for me, be it music or physical fitness, I was able to pay a lot of attention to it.”

“And because of these, what I have learned in these 6 months, especially in the field of music, I have not learned in my 28 years of life, so I can say that many people in the world have suffered a lot, but I personally have benefited a lot.”

You can connect with our culture through music

Radadiya said, “I am proud that I am a Gujarati and when we go abroad, people there are eager to know about the culture of Gujarat. And especially our job is to keep our culture alive and we are working for it and it is a matter of pride for us to take Gujarat’s culture to the world through music.”
