Halloween is celebrated on October 31st, particularly in Western countries, to commemorate the eve of the Christian feast of All Hallows’ Day, which honours all the church’s saints. Historians think that Halloween or Hallowe’en originated with an ancient Celtic holiday in which people lighted bonfires and dressed up in costumes to scare away spirits.
