Messaging app Snapchat stopped working on Wednesday. Downdetector, a website that that provides real-time information about the status of various websites and services, was flooded with outage reports from Snapchat users. Snapchat tweeted that it was aware that some users were having issues using the app. “Hang tight, we’re looking into it!”

Comments ranged from Snapchat users complaining they couldn’t post to their story or being unable to log into their accounts .

“Logged out now unable to log in, saying oops we could not find the credentials, my details are correct,” read one.

The number of reports concerning Snapchat outage saw a significant rise in last 24 hours, with more than 20,000 posts on Downdetector.

“Is anyone else’s Snapchat half down or is it just mine, main snaps aren’t sending but ‘blue’ chat is?” one Twitter user wrote.

A majority of problems (42%) were related to “sharing,” 35% to app and 23% to server connection.

A Downdetector user identifying themselves as ‘Snapchat Admin’ said the service “will shortly be back up and running” and asked Snapchat users to “log out and log back in in the meantime to refresh your connection.”

A number of Snapchat users vented their frustrations about the outage on Twitter.

This is the third time social media giants have been hit by outages this montg.

Facebook faced a nearly six-hour outage on October 4, affecting users of Instagram, Facebook Messenger, and WhatsApp. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg later apologised for the outage which he said had been caused due to a configuration change. However, on October 8, Facebook was hit by another outage when some users reported Instagram and Facebook app were not working.

Snapchat was said to have gained big out of the October 4 outage that cost Facebook $6 billion, while Snapchat registered a 20% surge in users, according to BBC News.
