One man’s story demonstrates that kindness does not always have to manifest itself in great gestures; it can also manifest itself in modest acts of everyday compassion. Every passenger who takes the bus in Haryana is given water by the bus conductor. It’s a tradition he’s kept for the past 12 years, but his tiny act of compassion just recently gained him well-deserved praise after an IAS official posted his story on Twitter.

Surendra Sharma, a resident of Rohtak who works as a bus conductor for Haryana Roadways, gives passengers water to drink. It’s a tradition he has kept for 12 years and has gained him praise after an IAS officer posted his story on Twitter.

“The first thing he provides passengers is a drink of water as soon as they board the bus. Since he entered the service 12 years ago, he has been strictly observing this habit,” Avinash Sharan, an IAS officer, wrote about  Sharma. Sharan also posted a photograph of Sharma stepping into the bus with a water bottle in hand.

The post has drawn over 8,000 likes and hundreds of comments. Several others have confirmed Sharma’s gesture. He not only provided her water but also gave his seat to her, a woman wrote.

Many people were moved by Surendra Sharma’s act on social media, and many expressed their feelings in the comments area. More folks like this hero conductor are desperately needed!
