India catapulted into
the top five of the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League standings after its
seven-wicket victory against Sri Lanka in Colombo on Sunday.

Sri Lanka put up a
modest total of 262 runs in its 50 overs. The Indian team coursed through the
innings scoring 263 runs within the 37th over itself. Back-to-back half
centuries from captain Shikhar Dhawan and debutant Ishan Kishan took India over
the line.

Courtesy of this
victory, the men-in blue made it to the fifth place in the ICC Cricket World
Cup Super League points table with 39 points from seven matches.

England occupies
the top spot at the table right now with 95 points followed by Bangladesh with
70 points. The third spot is taken by Australia with 40 points. Pakistan
occupies the fourth spot, one above India, with 40 points.

India will have an
opportunity to break into the top three of the World Cup Super League points
table if they win their next match against Sri Lanka on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Sri
Lanka, who are at the 12th spot with only 13 points, will be desperate to score
a victory in the next match. Sri Lanka has lost 8 out of its last 10 matches.

While India rose
to the fifth spot on the points table, the Bangladesh cricket team consolidated
its second rank with a three-wicket victory against Zimbabwe in Harare on
Sunday.

Zimbabwe had put
up a total of 240 in 50 overs having lost nine wickets. Wesley Madhevere’s half
century put the home side in a competitive place.

In reply,
Bangladesh were reduced to 173/7. But, Shakib Al-Hasan and Mohammed Saifuddin’s
69-run stand for the eighth wicket took Bangladesh to victory with three wickets
to spare.

The match did not
alter Bangladesh or Zimbabwe’s spots on the World Cup Super League points
table. While Bangladesh continued at the second spot, Zimbabwe are languishing
at the end of the table with just 10 points.
