The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Sunday announced the Women’s teams of the decade in the ODI and T20 formats. Australia’s Meg Lanning was elected as the captain for both the teams, as Indians blocked four out of the 22 slots available.

The Women’s ODI team of the year:

Women cricket did see a significant surge in viewership accross the globe in the past decade particularly during the ODI World Cup of 2017.

The ODI team of the Decade starts with the hard-hitting of the Alyssa Healy who has scored 1772 runs in the format so far. She also boasts 133 to be her highest score and a healthy 72 dismissals as a wicketkeeper. New Zealand’s Suzie Bates is selected as the other opener. Bates stands as the winner of the ICC Women’s ODI and T20I Cricketer of the Year 2015.

Former Indian skipper Mithali Raj forms a strong No 3 with a demonstrated supremacy in the format, 6888 runs coming at an average of over 50. The next batter and the elected skipper of this team is Australia’s mainstay Meg Lanning.

The team is comfortably seated at the top of the ODI charts under the leadership of the 28-year-old.

ICC named Stephanie Taylor next, followed by New Zealand’s wicketkeeper Sarah Taylor.

Ellyse Perry, perhaps the best player in the side, through the decade, is also named in the team. The Australian all-rounder doesn’t only have a knack for taking crucial wickets but has shown her ability to bat under difficult circumstances.

Her 7/22 versus England in the 3rd Women’s Ashes ODI at Canterbury has been one of the best in the format. South African duo of Dane Van Niekerk and Marizanne Kapp follow Perry in the lineup. The tail of the ODI side consists of one of India’s greatest in Jhulan Goswami and West Indies’ Anisa Mohammed.

The Women’s T20 team of the year:

Hard sloggers and clever bowlers make the T20 side of the decade. The team starts with the services of Alyssa Healy, who practically carried the Australian batting against India in the finals of the 2020 World Cup.

Next in is the experienced Kiwi duo in Sophie Devine and Suzie Bates. Following the explosive batting is some sensible hitting in the form of Aussie skipper Meg Lanning. ICC selected India’s skipper Harmanpreet Kaur for the No 5 slot in the T20 team. Kaur has 2182 T20 runs against her name, 103 being her highest score.

Stephanie Taylor’s all-round capabilities come next in the list that also includes Deandra Dottin. Ellyse Perry and Meghan Schutt followed by England’s Anya Shrubsole make the team even more attractive. The only Indian bowler included in the 20 over the side is Poonam Yadav.
