The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has been ranked as India’s best institute in the latest Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University ranking 2021 and ranks 172nd among the top 500.

Despite none of the institutes from India making it to the top 100, eight institutes have made it to the top 500.

The United States once again dominated the rankings comprising four out of the top five institutes. MIT was the top-ranked institute, followed by Stanford University, Harvard University, California Institute of Technology respectively. University of Oxford was ranked fifth. National University of Singapore was the top-ranked Asian Institute. 

Other institutes in the top 10 are, ETH Zurich, University of Cambridge, Imperial College London, University of Chicago and UCL. 

IIT Bombay was followed by IISc Bangalore in rank 185, IIT Delhi in 193, IIT Madras in 275 and IIT Kharagpur in 314, IIT Kanpur in 350, IIT Roorkee in 387 and IIT Guwahati in 470. 

According to QS rankings, the institutes were ranked based on academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, citations per faculty, international faculty ratio and international student ratio.
