As the grisly details of the Delhi murder of a 26-year-old
woman by her live-in partner continue to shock India, more such incidents are emerging
in the limelight. In Madhya Pradesh last week, a man allegedly killed his
girlfriend for being unfaithful and posted a video of her dead body with her
throat slit on social media.
Abhijit Patidar, the accused, claims to have slit
25-year-old Shilpa Jharia’s throat on the video on social media. The blood-smeared
body of Jharia was found at Mekhla Resort in Jabalpur. Police are on the
lookout for Patidar.
The video that Patidar is said to have uploaded to the
internet shows him saying ‘Bewafai nahi karne ka’ (Don’t be unfaithful). He
then lifts a blanket to reveal a woman lying in bed, her throat slit.
In another video, Abhijit Patidar identifies himself as a
trader from Patna and says a Jitendra Kumar, was his business partner, and alleges
that Shilpa Jharia had affairs with both of them.
Abhijit says Shilpa had borrowed around Rs 12 lakh from
Jitendra and moved to Jabalpur and it was upon Jitendra’s direction he murdered
the woman.
He also posts a third time saying: “Babu heaven mein phir
milenge” (Dear, we will meet again in heaven). Patidar’s post further names a Sumit
Patel, Jitendra’s aide.
Jitendra and Sumit were arrested from Bihar and are being
interrogated, police say.
Priyanka Shukla, Special Superintendent of Police, said
Abhijit stayed at Jitendra’s house in Bihar capital Patna for nearly a month
and police teams have been dispatched to Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and
Maharashtra in search of Abhijit Patidar.
Another police official said the accused, Patidar, had
booked a room at the Mekhla Resort on November 6.
“CCTV footage revealed he was alone in his room that night.
The next day, the woman came to meet him at the resort in the afternoon and
they had ordered food. After about an hour, the accused left the hotel alone
after locking the room,” police say.
Two days later, hotel officials broke open the door to find
the woman’s body, police added.
