Here are some of the features that the new portal will come with:

*     Quick processing of ITRs

The new portal will provide immediate processing of Income Tax Returns (ITRs). This will allow quick refunds to the taxpayers.

*     New dashboard

A single dashboard will display all interactions, uploads and pending actions for follow-up by the taxpayer.

*     Mobile app

Subsequent to the e-portal’s launch, a mobile app, which will have all the functions available on the website, will be launched.

*     ITR preparation software

An ITR preparation software will be provided to the taxpayers to help them file online and offline ITRs. It will have interactive questions and will help even a person with no prior knowledge on taxes to file ITRs hassle-free.

Initially, it will have questions that will be useful for filing ITRs 1, 4 (online and offline) and ITR 2 (offline) and it’ll later have the same for ITRs 3, 5, 6, 7.

*     Call centre, chatbot, tutorials

The new portal will have call centre, chatbot, tutorials and videos to help users file ITRs easily. The call centre will provide prompt responses to taxpayers’ queries.

The department has further clarified that the new tax payment system will be launched on June 18 after the advance tax installment date. This is to avoid any taxpayer inconvenience.
