The last date to file Income Tax Returns by individuals for the assessment year 2020-21 has been further extended by 10 days to January 10, 2021 for taxpayers (including their partners) who are required to get their accounts audited, announced Finance Ministry on Wednesday.

The deadline for filing IT returns by businesses and corporations too has been extended till February 15, 2021.

The announcement comes after Direct Taxes Professionals’ Association (DTPA) requested Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharamam to extend the due dates of paying Income Tax, tax audit report, income tax returns for audit cases, and the time limit for AGMs (Annual General Meetings).

This is the third time that the government has extended the deadline to file ITR — first from the normal deadline of July 31 to November 30, 2020, and then to December 31, 2020.

Also, the due date for filing declaration under the direct tax dispute resolution scheme Vivad Se Vishwas has been extended by a month till January 31.
