India completed a stunning 317-run victory in the second Test on Tuesday with their spinners combining to take all ten wickets on the penultimate day to end the visitor’s innings at 164 at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Moeen Ali was the latest to fall, charging down the track to dispatch a delivery from Kuldeep Yadav, which he completely missed for Rishabh Pant to complete his stumping.

England skipper Joe Root was baffled by a delivery from Patel that bounced from the rough, nicking off the glove straight to Ajinkya Rahane at the slips.
Ravichandran Ashwin (3/42) continued his purple patch, dismissing Dan Lawrence and Ben Stokes for his second and third wickets of the innings. Ashwin struck with his first delivery of the day, as Rishabh Pant displayed some excellent glove work to catch Lawrence well outside the crease.

The Chennai-born off-spinner anticipated Lawrence’s charge down the track and drifted one into his legs, catching him off-guard as the ball went through his legs for Pant to collect and complete a sharp stumping.
He then struck in the second over after the drinks break to send Stokes on his way. A flatter, quicker delivery deceived the southpaw as it did not spin and nicked off his inside-edge onto the pads, looping into skipper Virat Kohli’s hands in the slips.

Ollie Pope scripted his own downfall, falling to Patel (3/41) as he mistimed his attempted sweep shot, which lobbed up in the air for Ishant Sharma to take a simple catch.
Chinaman Kuldeep Yadav (1/7) got his first wicket of the innings as wicketkeeper-batsman Ben Foakes dismissed just like Pope, sweeping straight to Axar at mid-wicket.
Ashwin has played a starring role in India’s comeback so far, taking his 29th Test fifer to restrict the visitors to 134 in the first innings before scoring his fifth Test ton – and the first on his home ground – in the second innings.
He then dismissed England opener Rory Burns as the hosts capped off a dominating day’s play on Monday well on top, with the visitors staring down the barrel at 53 for the loss of three wickets.
India scored 329 and 286 in the first and second innings respectively.
Chasing 482 runs for victory, the onus is now on skipper Joe Root to dig in deep for England to have any hopes of avoiding a seemingly inevitable loss.
Victory will see India level the series at 1-1, after England inflicted a crushing 227-run defeat in the first Test at the same venue.
