Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated across India on Friday amid COVID-19 restrictions. The festival is celebrated after Ramadan, month-long fasting and is celebrated across the world on the first day of Shawwal, tenth month of the Islamic calendar. In India, first day of Ramadan was observed on April 14. 

This is for the second consecutive year, there will be no congregational prayers due to the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic in the country. The state government and Muslim clerics have urged the community to celebrate the festival at home.

The famous Jama Masjid in Old Delhi will also be closed to avoid gathering and only the Imam and the mosque staff will be allowed to offer namaz inside mosque. According to hinduatntimes.com, Imam Bukhari said they will hold special prayers for the people who died of COVID-19 and their grieving families and for those who are still struggling with this deadly virus.

On Thursday, President Ram Nath Kovind extended his wishes and urged people to celebrate the festival by staying at home.
