India on Friday reported 63,371 new cases of
coronavirus recorded in the last 24 hours, taking the COVID-19 tally to 73,70,469.
The death toll has now reached 1,12,161 after 895 people died on Thursday due to
COVID-19 related complications.
There are currently 8,04,528 active cases of
coronavirus in India, while 64,53,780 people have recovered from the COVID-19 disease
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on
Thursday said the doubling of coronavirus cases in India has sharply increased
to 70 days, it was 25.5 days in mid-August. The Health Ministry said this
indicates a substantial fall in the daily new cases of COVID-19 and the
consequent increase in time taken to double the total cases.
Since January 30 when India reported its first case of the novel coronavirus, it has emerged as the second-worst hit nation by the virus. The United States remains the worst-hit, with more than 7,979,448 million cases and 217,683 plus deaths, as per the tally of John Hopkins University.
The first case of COVID-19 was reported in China in late December, last year. Since then, the virus has globally infected over 38.8 million people and killed over a million of them.
