India reported 10,273 fresh COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, 10% lower than yesterday, according to data updated by the health ministry on Sunday.

Active cases have reduced to 1,11,472, comprising 0.26% of the total caseload. The daily positivity rate is now 1%. 

With 243 more fatalities from the infection, the death toll has claimed to 5,13,724. The health ministry stressed that more than 70 per cent of the deaths occurred due to comorbidities.

Nearly 20,439 people have recovered from COVID-19 in a single day, taking the total recoveries to 4,22,90,921.

The daily cases have stayed under one lakh for 21 consecutive days.

India’s cumulative vaccination coverage for COVID-19 crossed the 177 crore landmark milestone on Friday. More than 25 lakh vaccine doses had been given till 7 pm that day. The country has administered 1,77,44,08,129 vaccine shorts so far.

India’s mass vaccination campaign was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 16 last year.

Meanwhile, the Delhi government on Friday decided to withdraw all curbs, including night curfew from February 28, reduce the fine for not wearing masks from Rs 2,000 to Rs 500 and restart physical classes in Delhi schools from April 1.

Omicron is now the dominant variant behind COVID-19 cases in the country, the government said in a press conference last month.

India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20,00,000 mark on August 7, 2020, 30,00,000 on August 23, 40,00,000 on September 5 and 50,00,000 on September 16. It went past 60,00,000 on September 28, 70,00,000 on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90,00,000 on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19.

India crossed the grim milestone of two crore on May 4 and three crore on June 23.
