India reported 13,596 new COVID-19 cases and 166 new deaths in the last 24 hours, according to Indian Health Ministry data released on Monday. After adding the new cases, India’s COVID-19 death toll is 4,52,290
Meanwhile, 19,582 people recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours, taking India’s total recovery numbers to 3,34,39,331.
India has 1,89,694 active COVID-19 cases following Monday’s addition, which is the lowest in the last 219 days. Active cases account for less than 1% of total cases, which is the lowest since March 2020.

At least 9,89,493 samples were tested for coronavirus on Sunday, October 17. The country now has successfully tested 59,19,24,874 up to October 17, 2021.
As far as COVID-19 vaccination is concerned, India has successfully administered 97,79,47,783 crores of COVID-19 vaccines under the world largest inoculation drive. Out of this figure, 12,05,162 vaccines were given in the last 24 hours
Meanwhile, Southern India continues to remain the contributor in new COVID cases as Chennai and Coimbatore recorded new cases with the state capital adding 156 and Coimbatore added 132 new cases on Sunday while the remaining was scattered across other districts.
However, the active cases comprise 0.56% of the total coronavirus infections, which is the lowest since the advent of the pandemic in March 2020 while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.12% the highest since March 2020, the ministry said.
