India reports 42,625 new COVID cases in last 24 hours, higher than yesterday
- India's total infection tally now stands at 3,17,69,198, with the death toll pushed to 4,25,757
- Active cases in the country have increased by 5,395 to 4,10,353
- 36,668 patients recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours
India reported 42, 625 new COVID-19 cases and 522 deaths in the last 24 hours, data from the Union Ministry of Health confirmed on Wednesday. India's total infection tally now stands at 3,17,69,198, with the death toll pushed to 4,25,757.
Active cases in the country have increased by 5,395 to 4,10,353. A total of 36,668 patients recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours, taking the total recoveries to 3,09,33,022. The recovery rate stands at 97.37%.
The government has administered a total of 48,52,86,570 doses of the COVID vaccine, with 62,53,741 of them being administed in the last 24 hours.
The weekly positivity rate remains below 5%, currently at 2.36%, while the daily positivity rate stands at 2.31%.
Meanwhile, data from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) confirmed that a total of 47,31,42,307 samples have been tested for the virus so far. 18,47,518 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.
India has been witnessing a gradual drop in cases after a ferocious second wave crippled the country's health care infrastructure over the summer. At the peak of the second wave, the country reported over 4,00,000 cases and over 4,500 deaths everyday.
However, daily cases have been hovering around the 30,000-40,000 mark recently, with many states reporting an increase in the R-value.
India's COVID tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7; 50 lakh on September 16 and surpassed one crore on December 19. The country crossed the grim milestone of 2 crore cases on May 4 and 3 crore on June 23.The Health Ministry has, however, stressed that over 70% of the deaths occurred due to comorbidities.
