An inexperienced India side stood tall and humbled the mighty Australians to register a historic three-wicket win in the fourth Test, record a 2-1 series win and also retain the coveted Border-Gavaskar trophy. The 328-run target seemed as high as a mountain for the visitors but it was the sheer discipline and hard work that gave India a memorable win.

To celebrate the talents discovered in the whole series and the enormous win over Australia, wishes poured in for the Indian team as they took a consequential victory lap at the Gabba.

From Sourav Ganguly to Sachin Tendulkar to Harbhajan Singh to VVS Laxman, everybody elated with the win, took to Twitter and congratulated the young team.

This might be the last nail in the coffin for Tim Paine’s reign as Australia captain, having lost back-to-back home series against India.

Shubman Gill’s 91, Rishabh Pant’s unbeaten 89, Washington Sundar’s 24-ball cameo and Cheteshwar Pujara’s dogged half-century was enough for the Australian to crumble under pressure.

Pant, adjudged man of the match, said that this is one of the biggest days of his life and is happy with his performance.

“This is one of my biggest days of life. The support the team has given me even when I was not playing has been incredible. It’s a dream come true. We’ve been practicing hard since the first Test. The team management always backs me and tells me you are a match-winner and you have to go out there and win and I am happy I did it today. It was a fifth-day pitch and the ball was turning,” he said in the post-match presentation.

With this win, India now sit on top of the ICC Test Championship table.
