The Indian Air Force Day is observed annually on October 8. The primary goal is to honour India’s Air Force and recognise their contribution and outstanding performance in the field.

Since its establishment on October 8th, 1932, the Indian Air Force has participated in a number of significant and historic operations that have contributed to the success of the country. The Indian military has also engaged in notable air fights that have enhanced India’s standing on the battlefield and demonstrated the capabilities needed to defend the country.

Indian Air Force Day will be observed this year in honour of the country’s aviation sector and the air force members who have sacrificed their lives for the country’s security.

Theme 

The theme for Indian Air Force Day 2022 is IAF: Transforming for the Future. 

Celebrations

On Saturday morning, a ceremonial parade was performed at the air force station in Chandigarh in honour of the IAF’s 90th anniversary. Following a march-past, Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari observed the procession.

Senior IAF officers present were Air Marshal Sreekumar Prabhakaran, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Air Command.

A fly-past by an ensign formation made up of three Mi-17V5 helicopters piloted by Wing Commander Vishal Jain occurred as the IAF chief arrived.

An Air Force Day fly-past at the Sukhna Lake complex in Chandigarh will take place later in the day with the participation of up to 80 military aircraft and helicopters.

With the variety of aircraft at its disposal, the Indian Air Force is anticipated to put on a magnificent display as part of the festivities.

The IAF has chosen to host its annual Air Force Day parade and fly-past outside of the Delhi-NCR for the first time.

Rajnath Singh, the defence minister, and President Droupadi Murmu will attend the airborne display over Sukhna Lake.
