A MiG-21 fighter jet belonging to the Indian
Air Force crashed near Punjab’s Moga on Thursday night, resulting in the pilot being killed, reported news agency
ANI, referring to IAF officials.
The report further noted that the aircraft was on a training
sortie when the accident occurred.
“An Indian Air Force MiG-21 fighter
aircraft crashed near Moga in Punjab late last night. The aircraft was on a
routine training sortie when the accident happened”, ANI quoted the Air Force
officials as saying.

IAF officials further informed that the pilot flying the aircraft, Squadron Leader Abhinav Chowdhary, sustained fatal injuries.
“There was an aircraft accident last night involving a Bison aircraft of IAF in the western sector. The pilot, Sqn Ldr Abhinav Choudhary, sustained fatal injuries. IAF condoles the tragic loss and stands firmly with the bereaved family”, ANI quoted Indian Air Force as saying.

The Air Force officials furthermore noted that an inquiry had been ordered to pinpoint the cause of the incident.
“A Court of Inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident involving a Bison aircraft of IAF in western sector”, it reportedly said.
