Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and United States Vice President Kamala Harris delivered a joint statement in Washington DC Thursday. 

India is a very important partner to the US, Vice President Kamala Harris said in the joint statement.

The world leaders addressed issues like Indo-Pacific security, COVID-19 pandemic and climate change.

“We had COVID-19, the kind of crisis & importance of our shared belief in a free & open Indo-Pacific region. On COVID-19, our nations have worked together. Early in the pandemic, India was a vital source of vaccines for other countries.”

Harris also said that the United States welcomes India’s announcement of resuming COVID-19 vaccine export to other nations.

While addressing the climate crisis, Harris said, “I know that India takes the issue of climate crisis seriously. We believe that the US and India working together can not only have a profound impact not only on the people of our nations but the world.”

Indian PM Narendra Modi invited US Vice President Kamala Harris to visit India. He added, “India and America are natural partners; we have similar values, geopolitical interests, and our coordination and cooperation is also increasing.”

Earlier on Thursday, PM Narendra Modi was part of crucial foreign policy meetings in Washington DC. Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison held a bilateral meeting with the Indian PM. 

The Indian leader also met and interacted with CEOs of companies like Adobe and Qualcomm. 

In a tweet, PM Modi said, “President and CEO of Qualcomm, Cristiano R Amon, and PM Narendra Modi had a productive interaction. PM Modi highlighted the vast opportunities India offers. Mr. Amon expressed keenness to work with India in areas such as 5G and other Digital India efforts.”
