As the Parliament’s Monsoon Session commenced today, Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan briefed the House on the coronavirus pandemic and steps that have been taken by the government.

In his brief, Vardhan talked about how India has been able to limit its COVID-19 cases and deaths per million of population has been one of the lowest in the world. He said, “India has been able to limit its cases and deaths per million to 3,328 cases per million and 55 deaths per million population respectively, which is one of the lowest in the world as compared to similarly affected countries.” 

He also mentioned the name of the states which have been the most affected in the country. He said, “Maximum coronavirus cases and deaths primarily reported from Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, UP, Delhi, West Bengal, Bihar, Telangana, Odisha, Assam, Kerala and Gujarat.”

The Monsoon Session which commenced today will continue for 18 days. The government has listed 23 bills to be introduced, 11 of which seek to replace ordinances.
