An Instagram reel about the Shraddha Walkar murder case has social media enraged. Arush Gupta, a social media influencer, put out a reel where he is role-playing Shraddha Walkar and Aftab Amin Poonwala, her live-in partner who is accused of her murder. In the video, which plays Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Om Shanti Om’s song “Sunne Walo” in the background, shows Arush portray both Shraddha and Aftab and reimagines the fight they might have had.

The video, which many on social media have described as “sick,” imaginatively recreates the Shraddha-Aftab confrontation that apparently led to the murder.

Arush Gupta, however, seems to have intended to make the reel in a bid to spread awareness about intimate partner violence. The video ends with a text on screen that says in Hindi: “While you are watching this video, some other Shraddha is being sacrificed in the hands of another Aftab,” the text says ending with, “Justice for Shraddha.”

Aftab Amin Poonawala, 28, allegedly murdered his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar, 26, on May 18 this year. It is further alleged that after killing Walkar, Aftab cut her body into pieces, stored them in a fridge and then disposed of them in several areas around Delhi

Poonawala is said to have admitted to the murder at a Saket court. Poonawala’s lawyer said his client murdered Walkar “in the heat of the moment.” Abinash Kumar, the Legal Aid Defense Counsel representing Aftab in the case said his client was cooperating with the probe.

Upon being asked how difficult it is to prove him guilty, Kumar said key evidence like the murder weapon and phones of the two are yet to be found,” The Week reported. “Right now, police are depending on circumstantial evidence and unless the circumstantial evidence does not connect with the other evidence, a person cannot be convicted.”
