The eight franchises participating in the Indian Premier
League (IPL) announced their respective lists of retained and released players
on January 20, which has now ticked off the timer for the 14th
edition for the domestic cricketing extravaganza that is IPL, ultimately set to
go off on April 11, 2021 to kickstart the T20 league for this year.

The auctions will be held on February 18, and expectedly,
the teams would want to put in some final touches to their squads before
jumping into the fray.

Although there have been no official decisions yet regarding
the nature of the tournament, predictably in-person attendance will be
curtailed in view of coronavirus-concerns compared to usually packed stadiums.

A total of 57 players have been released by the eight teams,
including veterans of their respective clubs such as Lasith Malinga of Mumbai Indians,
Steve Smith of Rajasthan Royals, Harbhajan Singh of Chennai Super Kings, and
Glenn Maxwell of Kings XI Punjab.
