Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was bowled for a duck off just his second delivery in his side’s Indian Premier League (2021) opener against the Delhi Capitals on Saturday. This was the fourth duck in Dhoni’s IPL career.

The wicket came just as CSK had started scoring freely after recovering from a number of early wickets. However, the Capitals removed first removed Chennai’s top-scorer Suresh Raina and then the skipper to come back into the match.

A horrible mix-up with Ravindra Jadeja led to Raina’s run out, following which, Dhoni played on an Avesh Khan delivery onto his stumps.

Dhoni endured his worst season, both as a player and captain, the IPL last season, finishing the campaign with CSK at seventh and without a single half-century for the first time. He scored a total of 200 runs from 14 innings, at an average of 25, both the lowest tallies for Dhoni for an IPL season.

Meanwhile, a late blitz from Sam Curran (34 from 15) and Ravindra Jadeja (26 from 17) helped CSK to a competitive score of 188 for the loss of seven. Raina (54 from 36) top-scored for the side in his comeback match, notching his 39th IPL fifty.
