Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is adorably addressed as “Thala” by his fan base but largely by the supporters of his Indian Premier League side, Chennai Super Kings.
“Thala” adds to an existing list of other nicknames that MS Dhoni earned over his cricketing years like MSD, Captain Cool and Mahi.
Thala, however, is the most famous of them all.
Thala means head or leader in Tamil, which makes the term appropriate for Dhoni since he’s the captain of the Chennai Super Kings and has led them to three league titles over the years.
