MS Dhoni set up a very straight mid-off only to see Kieron Pollard give into the trap. The West Indies’ hard-hitter, who retired from international cricket on Wednesday, tried lofting over the boundary just behind the bowler to find a fielder waiting for an easy catch.

Mumbai Indians were reduced 119/6 after 17 overs vs the Chennai Super Kings at the DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai.

Dhoni changed the field on the first ball of the 17th over. The former CSK skipper asked Shivam Dube to come straight on the mid-off boundary, almost behind the umpire. Pollard, who has a major chunk of his boundaries in the region, looked to go aerial on M Theekshana’s flattish carrom ball. Dube hesitated for a bit but completed the catch comfortably.

Kieron Pollard, who had started looking dangerous, was dismissed for 14 runs off nine balls with the help of a six and a boundary.

Interestingly, Dhoni had pulled off a similar ploy in the 2010 and 2017 IPL final. In the first occassion, the former India captain was a part of the Chennai Super Kings while he played for the Rising Pune Super Giants in the latter.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai Indians were restricted to 155 runs in 20 overs. India’s U-19 star Tilak Varma starred with an unbeaten 51 off 43 balls with the help of three boundaries and two sixes. Jaydev Unadkat played a sweet nine-ball 19-run cameo to give the five-time champions a final flourish.
