Rajasthan Royals leg-spinner
Yuzvendra Chahal is currently leading the wicket-takers chart in IPL 2022 and
he regained the Purple Cap from his Royal Challengers Bangalore counterpart
Wanindu Hasaranga when he took a wicket in their win over Lucknow Super Giants
on Sunday. But the Indian spinner does not want any competition with the Sri
Lankan for the top position on the bowling charts.

Chahal, who now has 24
wickets in 13 matches, picked up the scalp of Deepak Hooda which derailed
Lucknow Super Giant’s chase. Hooda scored 59 from just 39 balls and was keeping
LSG’s hopes alive but he was bamboozled by Chahal when he ran down the wicket
to hit a big one.

Hasaranga, on the other
hand, took 23 wickets in an equal number of matches but with a better average
and a strike rate.

Chahal took his tally to 24
wickets in 13 matches in IPL 2022 and wore the Purple Cap again after losing it
for a brief period. The leg-spinner has continued to shine in the IPL despite not
having been retained by RCB at the end of the last season.

The Indian spinner said he
is happy whenever Hasaranga or his wrist-spin India teammate Kuldeep Yadav pick
up wickets. LSG spinner Kuldeep has taken 18 wickets in 12 matches for Delhi
Capitals in a resurgent IPL run this season after a couple of tough years with
Kolkata Knight Riders.

“Whatever he’s doing, I
am happy for him because he’s like a brother to me. If he takes wickets, if
Kuldeep takes wickets, I am happy with that,” Chahal said.

Chahal, however, said he was
not satisfied with his bowling performance despite picking up the key
opposition wicket. The leg-spinner gave away 42 runs in 4 overs.

His spin bowling partner
Ravichandran Ashwin finished with figures of 1/24 in his four-over spell.
“We needed that win. For us to finish in the top two, we had to win this
match. I was a little bit disappointed with myself but I’ll definitely come
back in the next game.

“When Hooda was batting
so well, leg-side was shorter, I didn’t want to take any risk. I tried to bowl
a couple of flighted balls, he tried to hit sixes, so I didn’t want to give any
extra runs,” Chahal added.
