The eight
existing franchises on Tuesday confirmed their retention picks for the 2022
edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). A total of 27 players, including
eight foreigners and four uncapped players, were retained by the franchises
while a plethora of big names were released into the auction pool.

KL Rahul,
David Warner, Shreyas Iyer and Hardik Pandya are some of the big names that have
been released by their respective teams into the auction pool. The two new teams,
Lucknow and Ahmedabad, can now select three players each from the pool, before all
ten teams battle it out at the mega auction to rope in the best of talents. The
mega auction is slated to be held in January.

Here we
take a look at how much purse value each of the existing franchises are left
with after their retentions.

Chennai Super Kings: The four-time champions retained
Ravindra Jadeja (Rs 16 crore), skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni (Rs 12 crore),
Moeen Ali (Rs 8 crore) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (Rs 6 crore). Their remaining purse
value is Rs 48 crore.

Mumbai Indians: The five-time champions retained skipper Rohit
Sharma (Rs 16 crore), Jasprit Bumrah (Rs 12 crore), Suryakumar Yadav (Rs 8
crore) and Kieron Pollard (Rs 6 crore). MI had to let go of talents like Hardik
Pandya and Ishan Kishan, and could look to rope them back in during the
auction. Their remaining purse value is Rs 48 crore.

Kolkata Knight Riders: The two-time champions kept faith in
all-rounders, retaining the likes of West Indies duo Andre Russel (Rs 12 crore)
and Sunil Narine (Rs 6 crore) as well as Venkatesh Iyer (Rs 8 crore). They have
also retained Varun Chakravarty (Rs 8 crore). Their remaining purse value is Rs
48 crore.

Delhi Capitals: DC let go of senior players like Shikhar Dhawan
and Ravichandran Ashwin as well as former skipper Shreyas Iyer to retain
Rishabh Pant (Rs 16 crore), Axar Patel (Rs 9 crore), Prithvi Shaw (Rs 7.5 crore)
and Anrich Nortje (Rs 6.5 crore). Their remaining purse value is Rs 47.5 crore.

Royal Challengers Bangalore: RCB have retained former skipper Virat
Kohli (Rs 15 crore), Glenn Maxwell (Rs 11 crore), and Mohammed Siraj (Rs 7
crore). Their remaining purse value is Rs 57 crore.

Rajasthan Royals: The 2008 champions have retained skipper Sanju
Samson (Rs 14 crore) along with English batting star Jos Buttler (Rs 10 crore)
and Yashasvi Jaiswal (Rs 4 crore). Their remaining purse value stands at Rs 62
crore.

SunRisers Hyderabad: The 2017 champions have retained Kane
Williamson (Rs 14 crore) along with uncapped players Abdul Samad (Rs 4 crore)
and Umran Malik (Rs 4 crore). Their remaining purse value stands at Rs 68
crore.

Punjab Kings: The Punjab Kings have released skipper KL Rahul
to the auction pool, with the Indian opener keen on a move away from the
franchise. They have only retained Mayank Agarwal (Rs 12 crore) and Arshdeep
Singh (Rs 4 crore) and will have a clear advantage in the auction with the
highest remaining purse value among the eight existing teams – Rs 72 crore.
