Royal Challengers Bangalore somehow managed to keep their wickets intact to hand the Kolkata Knight Riders their first defeat of the 2022 season. Faf du Plessis and co won by three wickets. 

After setting an under-par 128-run total in the first innings, KKR managed to take three quick wickets reducing RCB to 17/3 in 2.1 overs. Skipper Faf du Plessis (5), Anuj Rawat (0) and Virat Kohli (12) were dismissed cheaply. Pacer Umesh Yadav took two wickets for 16 runs in his four overs. Tim Southee, who was playing his first game of IPL 2022, came back with three scalps.

Sherfane Rutherford, Shahbaz Ahmed and Dinesh Karthik played handy knocks to help RCB cross the line. While the West Indies all-rounder scored a patient 28 in 40 balls, Ahmed made 27 in 20. Karthik remained unbeaten at 14 runs in seven deliveries. 

In the first innings,  Sri Lankan leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga snapped four wickets.  The 24-year-old was ably supported by the pace trio of Akash Deep (3/45), Harshal Patel (2/11) and Mohammed Siraj (1/25) after RCB opted to bowl after winning the toss.

KKR lost six wickets for 57 runs to slip from 44 for 3 to 101 for 9 in 14.3 overs. Andre Russell was the highest scorer for KKR with a 18-ball 25, while Umesh Yadav (18) and Varun Chakravarthy (10) added 27 runs for the last wicket, the highest partnership for KKR, to provide some respectability to the total.
