The Delhi Capitals on Thursday secured a four-wicket win over the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Rishabh Pant and co completed a 157-run chase with an over to spare and now advance to the sixth rung of the points table with eight points. KKR are eighth with six.

Shreyas Iyer’s men have now lost five matches in a row this season. Against Delhi, Nitish Rana led KKR’s efforts with a 34-ball 57. The 28-year-old became the first player with 50+ scores at all top six  batting positions for an IPL team. Skipper Shreyas Iyer also made 42 runs off 37 balls to rescue the team after they were 35/4 in the eighth over.

However, what really cost KKR the match was their fifth bowling options. The team took the field with only four specialist bowlers – Sunil Narine, Umesh Yadav, Tim Southee and Harshit Rana. Russel, Nitish Rana, Venkatesh Iyer and skipper Shreyas Iyer bowled one over each to cover up for one less bowler.

All three gave away 42 runs combined in 18 balls.

KKR fifth bowlers’ overs today

Rana: 14 runs (Over #9)

Rusell: 14 runs (Over #15)
