Chennai Super Kings bowler Deepak Chahar
has been ruled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 owing to a back
injury. Earlier in the day, it was reported that Chahar would miss the entire
IPL 2022. The injury will keep him away from the pitch for around four months
which meant the pacer will miss the T20 World Cup 2022 later this year in
Australia as well.

Chahar had been recovering at the NCA
from a quadriceps tear and was trying to get fit for the IPL 2022. “He had also
started bowling in the nets at the NCA in Bengaluru, but the fresh injury will
keep the man, who was bought by CSK for Rs 14 crores, out for quite a while,”
the report said.

Defending champions CSK, who are
currently ninth on the points table in IPL 2022, will need to find a
replacement for Chahar, who was their most expensive buy of the season at Rs 14
crore.

Here are possible replacements for
Deepak Chahar:

Ishant Sharma

The India pacer went unsold in the IPL
2022 mega auction. His experience will still be a valuable addition to the CSK team management.
Ishant Sharma played 93 IPL matches so far. He could fill the void left by
Deepak Chahar in the CSK rank. Ishant also shares a strong rapport with former
CSK captain MS Dhoni. He was part of the Delhi Capitals franchise last season.

Sandeep Warrier

Last season, Sandeep Warrier played for
Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL. He also made his India debut in July 2021 against
Sri Lanka due to his good outings with KKR. Warrier is not an experienced
player like Deepak Chahar but he has impressed one and all in domestic cricket.
In the 63 T20 games, Warrier has picked 59 wickets at an economy rate of just
over 7 and an average of 27.59.

Dhawal Kulkarni

Dhawal Kulkarni is currently busy as a
commentator in the IPL, but he is still an active cricketer. He has the
experience and that could be an asset for the CSK. In the IPL 2022 auction,
Kulkarni was left unsold. At RR last year, Kulkarni did not get enough matches.
He played 90 matches in IPL. His experience could prove handy for CSK, who are
struggling at the bottom half of the points table.
