A viral message has been doing rounds on Facebook-owned messaging app WhatsApp, which claims that e-commerce company Amazon is giving gifts to a hundred random users to celebrate its 30th anniversary. It even asks users to take a survey in order to win Huawei Mate 40 Pro 5G. Well, the message is totally fake and is designed to trick users.

The WhatsApp forward does not contain any text but comes with a fake URL and according to fact-checking portal NewsMeter, by clicking the link a user is directed to what looks like an Amazon page, where a person can take a survey.

The survey has four questions– on gender, age, quality of Amazon service and the smartphone platform that the person is using.

Despite the notice that said only 100 users can win the prizes, the survey could be taken over and over again and it followed the same pattern of announcing a winner at every second trial.

The survey also asks users to enter their address and share the same fake link to other WhatsApp groups to get the gift. This is a scam. Such messages usually try this strategy to steal the information of users and hack their electronic devices.

NewsMeter also said in its report that it called an Amazon customer care service to confirm the reality of this viral message. The organisation said that the URL is totally fake and warned people to stay away from it.
