In what seemingly started with a picture of a
Twitter user asking Tinder to remove her ex from her photo, Tinder India
raked up a storm on Saturday, fulfilling peoples’ repeated requests of removing
their ex-boyfriends or girlfriends from their pictures, and the twitterati cannot have
enough of it. From an anomaly invitation to Zomato for pairing up over puns and
replacing brand-names of products with their own catchy Tinder-worthy versions,
Tinder India apparently saw it all.

The real kick, however, came on Thursday,
as Tinder started off with responding to a user’s request of removing her ex
from her photo, eventually giving rise to the maddening spree that saw people posting
their older pictures with ex-significant others and asking for similar treatment,
and boy, did Tinder oblige.

Replacement to people came in several shapes and sizes,
from ice cream cones, to a giant pizza, to large soft toys, to absolutely
nothing – empty spaces.

Taking for instance, a particular user’s photo of
himself with his ex-girlfriend. Upon a request of replacement, not did the
latter just turn into a tree, but the brilliant pun-game of “Guess it ped (Hindi
word for ‘tree’, instead of paid) off in the end” came from the dating application.

Another request of “Can they put a girl with me”
saw a seemingly bereaved user in a photo, changed into sitting alongside the
word ‘girl’ in bold, black letters.

The social media team did not forget to touch upon the recent meme trend of having a ‘pawry’, as their handle quite smoothly put it in a one-liner.

Even a potential pair-up with Zomato seemed plausible at one point, with both brands using each other’s area of interest for their own promotion.

The move appears, however, to be a part of a
well-planned promotional strategy for the application to plug their video on ‘Moving
on Rituals’ featuring social media influencers such as Ananya Pandey, Shreya
Gupto and Sejal Kumar, also going by as That Indian Chic on both Instagram and Twitter.
