Indian Badminton player Saina Nehwal, who was forced to pull out from the Thailand Open 2021 after testing positive for COVID-19, took to Twitter, questioning her ouster from the tournament, saying that she ‘didn’t receive the COVID test report’. Nehwal was scheduled to play Kisona Salvaduray of Malaysia.
In a post on Twitter, the player described how it is confusing as she was asked to go to the hospital before warming-up for her first-round match. “According to rules, the report should come in five hours,” she added.
According to PTI, Nehwal’s husband, Commonwealth Games champion Parupalli Kashyap, was also forced to withdraw “due to close proximity”.

‘Four players tested positive for COVID-19 today. Upon retesting the same specimens, three players from India, Germany and Egypt were found to be negative. One more Indian player remains positive,’ BWF tweeted, adding that the entire Indian team had been categorised as ‘high risk’ by health authorities in Thailand.
