sensation. He is the spearhead of the Indian pace attack in three formats.

The young pacer came into the limelight way
back in 2013 when he made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians. Over the 10 seasons, the unorthodox pacer emerged as MI’s most effective weapon.

But when Bumrah came onto the scene of IPL,
former India and Royal Challenges Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli was not
too optimistic about the pacer’s sustainability in Indian cricket.

In a chat show with Virender Sehwag on
Cricbuzz, former India and RCB cricketer Prithvi Patel heaped praise on Bumrah
but revealed an old incident involving Kohli, who was then a promising
youngster in international cricket.

Parthiv claimed that when he was with RCB
in 2014, he had told Kohli about Bumrah and asked him to be wary of the pacer.
But Kohli did not take Bumrah seriously and even considered him like any other
rookie pacer.

“In 2014, when I was in RCB I had told
Virat that there’s a bowler Bumrah, just see him. The reply that came from his
end was ‘Chord na yaar, ye Bumrah-Vumrah kya karenge?” Parthiv Patel in a
chat show on Cricbuzz.

Bumrah castled Kohli on IPL debut

Bumrah completed a decade with Mumbai Indians in IPL against Delhi Capitals
Sunday. He did not have the best of start as he was smashed for 43 runs in 3.2 overs in Mumbai Indians’ opening match vs Delhi Capitals.

The 28-year-old made his debut for Mumbai Indians in the year 2013, at the tender age of 19. He
played his first game for MI against the RCB and returned with a remarkable
3/32 on debut. In their very first meeting, Bumrah got better of Kohli as he
dismissed the batter to claim his first IPL wicket.

Over
the years, in 10 seasons, Bumrah played 107 matches and picked up 130 wickets at
an impressive average of 23.38. The paceman is currently the 10th highest
wicket-taker in the IPL history.

Making
his India debut in 2016, Bumrah became Kohli’s most dependable bowler in
overseas conditions. Bumrah was part of India’s historic Test series-winning team
in Australia in 2018-19 and 2020-21.
