The Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists who were killed in Nagrota in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday were planning “something big” on the anniversary of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, PTI reported quoting sources.

The news comes amid Prime Minister Narendra Modi holding a review meeting over the encounter, PTI reported. Apart from the PM, the meeting was attended by Home Minister Amit Shah, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Harsh V Shringla and the top intelligence establishment.

Four suspected JeM terrorists were neutralised in a gunbattle on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway after a truck carrying the newly infiltrated militants was intercepted on the outskirts of Jammu city on Thursday, PTI reported quoting top police officials.

Two policemen were injured in the operation.

The terrorists had come to execute a “big plan” which has now been foiled, said Mukesh Singh, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jammu.

On 26 November 2008, 10 Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists carried out coordinated shooting and bombing attacks throughout Mumbai, India’s financial capital. The fighting lasted four days.

LeT is a terrorist group based in neighbouring Pakistan. Its founder and the 26/11 mastermind Hafeez Saeed was sentenced to 10 years in jail by a Pakistani court on Thursday.
