Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan on Saturday announced that
he will start the next phase of campaigning for Tamil Nadu Assembly elections on March 3 adding
that his party, Makkal Needhi Maiam (MKM) will announce the final list of candidates on March 7, ANI reports.

The statements came after Election Commission on Friday announced the polling schedule for the state assembly elections 2021.

The election to the 234-member Assembly of the state of Tamil Nadu will be held on April 6 in a single phase. However, votes will be counted on May 2. 

Haasan, who has always been critical of state’s ruling party AIADMK, launched his own party (MKM) in 2018.

Hassan’s earlier phase of campaign titled ‘Let’s Renovate Tamil Nadu’, included visits to districts in Madurai, Theni, Dindigul, Virudhunagar, Nellai, Thoothukudi and Kanyakumari.

In December, the MKM leader also proposed political alliance with Tamil Superstar Rajinikant by saying he is “just a phone call away” if the latter wants to join hands.
