Kane Williamson, SunRisers Hyderabad captain, exits IPL 2022 to be on the side of his wife, Sarah Raheem. The couple is expecting their second child. SunRisers
Hyderabad made the announcement on their official Twitter handle. The
announcement came just after SunRisers Hyderabad’s victory over Mumbai Indians
last night.

“Here’s everyone at the #Riser camp
wishing Kane Williamson and his wife a safe delivery and a lot of
happiness,” the franchise posted on Twitter.

Tuesday’s victory kept SRH’s playoff
hope theoretically alive. The Hyderabad franchise currently has 12 points in 13
points. To make it to the knockouts, SRH will have to win their final league
match against Punjab Kings on May 22. However, their chances will depend on
Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals’ fate as Net Run Rate (NRR) could come into play in deciding the fourth place holder.

Kane Williamson’s exit from the
IPL 2022 has left SRH management looking for a new captain for the remainder of
the season.

SRH have two options in Bhuvneshwar Kumar
and Nicholas Pooran. Bhuvneshwar previously led SRH in a few matches, and
Nicholas Pooran has the experience of leading the West Indies in white-ball
cricket. SRH will have to choose between the bowler and the wicket-keeper
batter.

Bhuvneshwar was outstanding in SRH’s
last game against Mumbai Indians, bowling a wicket-maiden over in the 19th over
to give Fazalhaq Farooqi a cushion of 19 runs to defend. SRH eventually won the
match by three runs. The pacer has so far taken 12 wickets in 13 matches. On the other hand,
Nicholas Pooran has been in good form with the bat. The middle-order batter
scored 301 in 13 matches at an average of 43.

Williamson, however, failed to make a mark this
season. He could score 216 runs at an average of 19.64. His strike
rate of 93.50 is the worst among the batters with a minimum of 100 runs.

On Tuesday against Mumbai Indians,
Williamson came to bat at No.6, with Priyam Garg instead partnering Abhishek
Sharma at the top. The move worked well as Garg laid the foundation of the
innings with 42 off 26 balls. Rahul Tripathi and Pooran launched from there as
SunRisers Hyderabad posted 193 for 6.

With Williamson unavailable for
selection, fellow New Zealander Zealander Glenn Phillips will be in contention
to make his debut for SRH.
