Sunday, July 26, marks the 21st anniversary of the Kargil Vijay Diwas, when the Indian Army in 1999 recaptured all the Indian posts in Kargil that were occupied by Pakistani infiltrators.

The Indian Army on Saturday shared a #ThisdayThatyear post on Twitter, remembering the start of “Operation Vijay” which achieved success against the Pakistani infiltrators.

“Indian Army launched a daring attack at Zulu Top in Muskoh valley. Undaunted courage and unflinching determination of our troops led to successful capture of the objective,” the Indian Army wrote on Twitter.

In another tweet, they praised late army officer Naik Kaushal Yadav who had led to the subsequent capture of the Indian posts.

“Naik Kaushal Yadav along with his squad established the foothold on Zulu Top in Mushkoh valley which lead to subsequent capture of the objective. Displayed conspicuous courage & valour. Awarded Vir Chakra (Posthumous),” the Indian Army tweeted.

“Operation Vijay is a saga of Courage Valour and Sacrifice of Brave Soldiers of Indian Army. 26 July will be remembered for the determination and daring leadership and raw courage of our Soldiers,” the army said.

Every year, July 26 marks the Kargil Vijay Diwas on the victory of Indian Army in Kargil War which took place between May and July.

The Kargil War is remembered as the fiercest and the most valiant operations conducted by the Indian Army in which 527 Indian soldiers were martyred.
