Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate former DSP Balkar Singh has won the Kartarpur assembly constituency defeating Chaudhary Surinder Singh of Indian National Congress (INC) by a margin of 4,574 votes.

Kartarpur constituency has Chaudhary Surinder Singh of the Indian National Congress taking on advocate Balwinder Singh of the BSP-SAD allaince and former Kartarpur DSP Balkar Singh of the Aam Aadmi Party this year in the Punjab assembly elections.

Chaudhary Surinder Singh had won the Kartarpur seat in 2017, when the Congress swept Punjab. In 2012, Kartarpur legislative assembly constituency had a total 149410 electors.

Kartarpur assembly constituency is a Punjab Legislative Assembly constituency in Jalandhar district, Punjab.

Chaudhary Surinder Singh won and became MLA from this seat. He secured a total 46729 votes. Shiromani Akali Dal candidate Seth Sat Paul stood second with a total 40709 votes. He lost by 6020 votes.

The Kartarpur assembly constituency will vote in a single phase of the Punjab elections on February 20, 2022, along with 116 other constituencies.

Results will be declared on March 10, along with those for elections in four other states, including neighbouring Uttarakhand.
