KBC Offline Quiz (November 17, 2021): The equator passes through which of the following African lake?

Tana

Nalvasha

Chad

Victoria

Answer: Victoria

Lake Victoria is one of the African Great Lakes. Though having multiple local language names, the lake was renamed after Queen Victoria by the explorer John Hanning Speke, the first Briton to document it in 1858, while on an expedition with Richard Francis Burton.

Lake Victoria, through its single outlet to the north, the Victoria Nile, is a lifeline to Sudan and Egypt. The lake touches the Equator in its northern reaches.
