The Scorched
Earth policy is an extreme warfare strategy that involves quite literally “scorching”
whatever remains on a particular piece of land. This is done so that the enemy cannot
use anything that might be useful for an attack against the other army.
The Dutch followed
this strategy to stop the Japanese from using wood and timber in their own war.
The policy devastates
entire masses of nature, wildlife, food and resources.
The Soviets
also used this strategy against the Germans, by scorching and destroying

policy has devastating repercussions for the civilian population left behind.
People die, lose access to basic needs like food and shelter.
The term “scorched
