Kanishka, also known as Kanishka the Great, was an emperor belonging to the Kushan dynasty. He ruled in the second century and was popular for his military, political and spiritual achievements. He was a descendent of the Kujula Kadphises who was the founder of the Kushana Empire. 

Kanishka’s coins were found in Tripuri (present day Jabalpur). He played an important role in developing the silk road and the transmission of Mahayana Buddhism from Gandhara to China.
