Yerwada and Bageshwari are two types of charkhas. Yerwarda charkha was modified in the 1930s and used by Mahatma Gandhi while he was in Pune’s Yerwada jail during the Quit India movement. The Bageshwari charkha, on the other hand, was improvised in Bageshwar in Kumaon where the localities had adopted it after Gandhi’s visit in the 1920s.
